Domaine 1196, under the direction of Reinhard Muster in Gamlitz, Styria, collaborates closely with the prestigious 5-star winery Albert Gesellmann from central Burgenland for its red wines. The Merlot grapes for this wine come from the finest vineyards in Deutschkreutz and Raiding, meticulously tended by the expert Team Gesellmann.

After a careful hand harvest, the wine matured for 24 months in barriques, including some new oak barrels, allowing the exceptional 2017 vintage to fully develop its potential. Originally not intended for official release, this wine is now available to the public—and it's a welcome addition.

In the glass, it displays a deep ruby garnet colour that promises richness. The nose is a captivating blend of ripe blackberries, oak spice, and a hint of juicy caramel. On the palate, the wine is dry, powerful, and full-bodied, with elegant dark berry flavours and fine, well-integrated tannins that glide smoothly over the tongue. A touch of minerality and a slightly salty finish add complexity and ensure a seamless drinking experience. This is a well-ripened, classic Merlot that lingers long, leaving a smile with every sip.
