Domaine 1196, led by Reinhard Muster in Gamlitz, Styria, Austria collaborates closely with the acclaimed 5-star winery Albert Gesellmann from central Burgenland on its red wines. The Merlot grapes are sourced from the finest vineyards in Deutschkreutz and Raiding, where they are meticulously cared for by Team Gesellmann.

Hand-harvested with great care, this wine spent 24 months maturing in a mix of new and used barriques, allowing the exceptional 2017 vintage to reveal its full potential. Originally not intended for commercial release, this remarkable wine is now making its way to the public—and it’s a welcome treat.

The deep ruby garnet colour sets the stage for a nose brimming with ripe blackberries, oak spice, and a touch of juicy caramel. On the palate, it’s dry, powerful, and incredibly full-bodied.
