Argentina – Home to the World's Highest-altitude Vineyards.
Once without vines, now a land of top-quality wines.
With nearly 220,000 hectares of vineyards and an annual production of almost 2 billion litres, Argentina ranks as the world's fifth-largest wine producer. Yet, the country originally had few native vines. It was the Spanish conquistadors who introduced their grape varieties, particularly in what is now the renowned Mendoza wine region. Today, Argentina is home to the world’s highest vineyard, perched at an astonishing 3,100 meters above sea level in the Salta region. The country’s key grape varieties—Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay—flourish across diverse terroirs, extending as far as the cooler reaches of Patagonia.
