In 1990, Uwe Schiefer lept from being a waiter and sommelier into a winemaking life and founded his own winery in Welgersdorf in southern Burgenland. He was convinced that the region had untapped potential and the wines should be grown more in harmony with the existing terroir. He planted mainly Pinot Noir, Merlot and Blaufränkisch, but also Welschriesling, Grüner Veltliner and Weissburgunder on around 22 hectares of vineyards. The production is very close to nature and purist in order to get the best out of the wines.
