Description

This is the stuff red wine dreams are made of - heavy metal on the palate combined with the sounds of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra!

No other Austrian red wine has caused such a stir over the last 30 years. The Steinzeiler is a wine with near cult status and the 2019 vintage is now a rarity available in limited quantities. The wine takes its name from the stony, calcareous soils of the Leitha Mountains. Vines have been cultivated on these vineyards for 2800 years!

The cuvee consists of 80% Blaufränkisch and 10% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Zweigelt. It is matured for 30 months in small French oak barrels. The result is full-bodied power with elegance and charm. From the superlative 2015 vintage, the wine is still young and is slowly reaching drinking maturity. It is best to decant it 1-2 hours before drinking to see it best side.
Silky, delicately supple and yet powerful. Lots of ripe tannins with perfectly integrated wood. Dark fruit with inviting fruity sweetness. Perfectly balanced. The finish feels endless. A powerful red wine that is close to perfection and can certainly continue to mature until 2040.
