Description

This natural wine is a flagship of the biodynamic star winemaker Gernot Heinrich.

In his case, natural wine means fermenting Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay on the mash for 14 days (like red wine). They are then gently pressed in a basket press and matured on the fine lees for 19 months in clay amphorae and used oak barrels. The wine is bottled without filtration and therefore naturally cloudy.

This results in a mix of white wine, rosé and burgundy. Since we couldn't describe the wine better, we'd like to quote the winery:

A wine that speaks freely of colour and cannot be put into a drawer. Colourful and full of aromas, far from grey, Graue Freyheit rises like morning twilight out of the fog and promises a bright day. The light extract of red berries and delicate spice of black tea create tension between autumnal depth and spring-like, carefree zest for life. Its body is compact, steel, and full of precision. Tightened by revitalising acidity, substantial texture and lasting minerality, the Graue Freyheit leaves a stony reverberation with a cooling effect. It forms a gripping symbiosis of being powerful and sublime, and at the same time floating calmly as otherwise only a zeppelin can embody. It is a fascinating paradox where the attributes “sparse” and “fruity” form a unit. Colourblind with pleasure. Shake before enjoying.
