Baron de Filar Crianza D.O. Ribera del Duero 2016

Baron de Filar - it not only sounds like the lightness of being, it tastes like it too.

But watch out! This wine, with 14.5% ABV, is anything but light. Nevertheless, it has incredible drinkability, and the tannin, fruit, acidity and use of wood are in a great balance. 85% of the grapes are matured in French wood, and 15% of the wine is stored in American barriques. This gives an extra touch of vanilla.

In the glass, it is deeply dark, almost opaque with wonderful ruby-red reflections. A lot of sour cherries on the nose and a good portion of vanilla and roasted aromas. On the palate, taut but super ripe tannin, red berries, sour cherries, cherries, again aromas of coffee and cocoa, plus a fresh acidity that calls for the next sip. Long, fiery finish - very fine!

A wine that is a lot of fun, and a real hit for the price! If you like Ribera, you can't go wrong here!
